Protests against Gaza attacks in Algiers
Hundreds of people took to the streets in the Algerian capital Algiers after Friday’s prayer in to protest against Israeli strikes on Gaza.

The protestors who were walking from Ennour mosque located in a popular area in Algiers called for standing by Gaza and breaking the Arab silence on the Israeli offensive.

At least 421 Palestinians were killed in the seven-day Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip.

The demonstrators led by Islamists were stopped by anti-riot forces in downtown. Meanwhile, people in other areas in Algiers gathered outside mosques to denounce the Israeli strikes.

Earlier in December, Algerian MPs protested at the Parliament’s headquarters calling on the National Assembly’s speaker to hold a special session on Gaza attacks.

The government banned demonstrations in 2001 following bloody clashes between security forces and protestors in a demonstration organised by Berber activists.
