Protests againt irrigation foreign companies in Algeria
Hundreds of people in Ouergula province (south of Algiers) protested Sunday against irrigation foreign companies working in Algeria for “their useless worksâ€.
-
The protestors blocked the route using stones and barriers all day long while National Gendarmerie forces intervened to calm down.
-
The angry residents shouted slogans condemning the works carried out by the company and their bad consequences including dirty water leak.
-
They described the situation as “catastrophic” while local authorities are keeping silent over the residents’ concerns.
-
The protestors accused foreign companies of carelessness and asked for guarantees to the success of the workshops.
-
Previously, more than 100 specialists in irrigation raised doubts on the smooth running of the works.
-
Many problems were observed and presented to water minister on his last visit to the province. Yet, the catastrophe still continues along with technical errors.
