The National Union of Education and Training Workers called for continuing their unlimited strike until authorities intervene to change their statute.

The Union criticized the Algerian education ministry for trying to misleading public opinion by holding the Union responsible for the strike.

It said more than 60 percent of education workers went on strike in the provinces of Laghouat, Biskra, Tlemcen, Tiaret, Tizi Ouzou, Djelfa, Guelma, Constantine, Medea, Msila, Mascara, Mila and the capital. The lowest rate was in Tamenrasset, Chlef, Oum Bouagui, Saida, Tissemssilt, Tindouf, Illizi and Oran as it was estimated at 35 percent.

The Union called on the Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal once again to intervene and modify workers’ statute so that they would stop the strike.

“Workers should not believe intentional rumors and not follow provocations,” said the Union in its release.
