Remarks of Secretary General of Algeria’s National Liberation Front (FLN) Amar Saadani raised controversy among politicians as he criticized the Algerian intelligence department for failing to ensure safety in the country.

Senior member at Algeria’s RND Belkacem Melah said he is sorry for what Saadani said. “We are ahead of an important electoral event. Saadani criticized a constitutional institution while he should have respected it.”

“I felt bad because everyone one is watching us overseas,” he said.

Press attaché at Algeria’s Hope rally Nabil Yahiaoui did not comment Saadani’s remarks, saying his party does not interfere in other parties’ affairs.

Leading member at the Algerian Popular Movement Lamine Osmani said his party calls for stability and opinion expression is a legitimate right.

“Saadani bears his remarks,” he added.

According to Secretary General of Algeria’s Islah Movement Djahid Younsi, Saadani’s remarks show a conflict inside the regime.

He added that what Saadani said is not something new for observers. “The military institution has commanded Algeria since its independence. It makes president.

He believes that there is misunderstanding in the regime following the President’s health problems.

“They are thinking about a way out. They are confused. There will be more ambiguity because the president has not talked yet.”

He added that President Abdelaziz Bouteflika may not run for office.
