Saudi Arabia to Seduce Russia With Oil to Let Down al-Assad

The Syrian opposition assumes that the Saudi Arabia has intervened in the Syrian issue by sealing a deal with Syrian regime supporter Russia.

The Syrian opposition is still rejecting the Russian proposition to start talks with the Syrian regime. Echorouk understands that Burhan Ghalioun who traveled to New York to represent the Syrian opposition front in the UN will accept no talks with Syria embattled President Bashar al-Assad, requiring, instead, the departure of the regime, once for all.
“The resignation of Assad is the condition for any negotiation on the transition to a democratic government in Syria,” Burhan Ghalioun told AFP.
Such information was later confirmed to Echorouk reporter by Yahia Akkab, Head of the Executive Committee at the Syrian Democratic Block, member of the Executive Council.
Mr Akkab said the opposition will only accept to be handed over the power in Syria, and any dialogue with the incumbent regime is rejected.
In this regard, the Syrian opponent revealed that Saudi Arabia wants to curb the Iran “threat” on the Gulf region, by offering more oil plants to Russia, in exchange for a more “flexible” position” in the Syrian issue.
He further assumed the existence of “behind the scene” role being played by Russia aiming at convincing Assad to start power transition to vice president. Russia tends “sealing” a lucrative deal that would preserve her interests in Syria, and ultimately avoid Libya scenario remake, when she lost oil investments there for supporting the ousted late Gaddafi.
Russia rejects AL draft resolution on Syria
Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Gennady Gatilov, said on Monday that the draft resolution submitted by the Arab League and the Western countries to the UN Security Council on Syria is unacceptable in its current form for Russia.
In a press statement, Gatilov said that Russia and China voted last October against a draft resolution submitted by the Western countries to the Security Council because it included unacceptable items, adding that the current western draft resolution is not different from the previous one.
Gatilov clarified that the draft resolution submitted to the Security Council by the Western countries cannot form the ground to reach common denominators at the Security Council on the Syrian issue, adding that it is a biased document that sparks debates and leaves the door open for interference in the Syrian affairs.
