Algeria has denied circulated media report of the existence of a mediation led by the Saudi Arabia between Algeria and Morocco to reopen their 17 years closed border.

Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, Ammar Belani, told Echorouk reporter that Algeria and Morocco are two brotherly nations bound to serene relations and diplomatic channels, in addition to neibouring approaches and exchanging visits of both countries’ ministers.

Mr Belani said implicitly that the two North African nations do not need mediation as “there are no problems between them and they are not enemies to each other, stressing that the Western Sahara issue is taking its normal process in the frame of the UN resolutions.

Moroccan media reports said on Sunday that Saudi Arabia is working on organizing a meeting  between Algeria and Morocco in Riyad in a couple of weeks, adding that the meeting is due to settle pending issues between the neighboring nations, including the closed border issue.
