Saudi Official: “No official decision concerning investments in occupied Western Sahara”
The Chairman of the Saudi-Algerian Business Council Raed Bin Ahmed Al Mazroui evoked in Algiers the announced Saudi investments in occupied Western Sahara, stressing “that there is nothing official about this move, but some investors are looking for investment opportunities without any political considerations.”
The Saudi official stressed “that those who could be part of this investment endeavour were representing only themselves and not Saudi Arabia’s officialdom.”
The statement by Mr Mazroui came after the previous announcement of the Saudi ambassador in Morocco, Abdul Aziz bin Mohi who pointed two weeks ago, to an expected visit by some Saudi businessmen to western Sahara regions, in order to discuss ways of launching investment and exploration, as part of a series projects in the Moroccan-occupied territory in the aftermath of the withdrawal of European companies from the territory in line with a decision by the EU Court stating that Morocco has been plundering illegally the natural and agricultural resources of occupied Western Sahara.
On the Algerian-Saudi cooperation track, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Algeria, added the Saudi official, are compelled to diversify their sources of income by resorting to fresh investments, due to the current erosion of oil prices, while revealing that the two sides have agreed to foster four Saudi investment projects in Algeria, worth several billion of dollars, stressing that the volume of trade exchanges is still low between the two countries and should be shored up in the very near future.
