Scholars and preachers go to Ghardaia to end conflict
The Association of Algerian Muslim Ulema Tuesday sent a delegation of scholars and preachers to the province of Ghardaia (south of Algeria) in an attempt to unify residents who were in conflict.
“Muslims’ moral base is tolerance. We call on all the parts to respect our tolerant authenticity. Our brothers in Ghardaia are part of our country Algeria. We want them to calm down and be reasonable. They should treat the problem in a spiritual way,” the delegation’s president Cheikh Mohamed Mkarkeb told Echorouk.
“Allah made solutions to every problem. Consultation is the solution,” he added.
“Our meeting with our brothers in Ghardaia is meant to exchange visions. We need to have a sincere intention to serve our nation. Anarchical conflict does not serve any one.”
Dr. Abderrezak Guessoum, the association’s president said Ibadit and Malikit notables talked with the delegation about the situation and reasons behind the conflict.
“The mission of this delegation is to unify people and sensitize them about the reality of what is happening in the country. They should know they are part of it and there are enemies who want to hit the nation and religion. We should not allow them to do that,” he told Echorouk on the phone.
Slimane Ben Rabie, a political and human rights activist said residents in Ghardaia want Algerian preachers and scholars to intervene to end the conflict. They insist that spiritual and religious aspect must play its role in this field and they reject any intervention from politicians.
