Scorching heat-wave to persist until Thursday in Algeria
The scorching heat-wave which has gripped the northern part of Algeria over the past 3 days is expected to persist until at least Thursday night according to the Met office.

This heat wave has also triggered several forest fires notably in the central provinces of Blida, Bouira, Tizi Ouzou and Tipaza destroying hundreds of hectares of land including trees and bushes.

The high temperatures which hit the northern part of the country ranged between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius notably in Algiers and Constantine where the populations faced great constraints and difficulties in fulfilling their sacred duty of the fast of Ramadhan owing to the unbearable heat.

Since the start of the hot season, thousands of hectares of land have been destroyed by raging forest fires in several provinces of Algeria.

The fire-fighters of the national civil protection had to intervene on many occasions to put out forest fires in several regions of the country and to evacuate, if need be, the residents living in the vicinity of these forests.
