Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal is expected to meet with security senior officials as opposition parties warned to take to the street ahead of the Hydrocarbons Nationalization Day.

The extraordinary security meeting will be attended by vice-defense minister, chief of staff General Ahmed Gaid Saleh, the National Gendarmerie chief Ahmed Boustila, national police chief Abdelghani Hamel and the interior minister Tayeb Belaiz.

It will focus on security situation assessment and calls for protests against the political and economic situation in the country.

This comes as Algeria will celebrate the Hydrocarbons Nationalization Day and the anniversary of the General Union of Algerian Workers’ creation on February 24th.

The meeting is expected to come up with a set of decisions meant on how to deal with the calls for protests following presentations made by security and military senior officials.

Two months ago, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika held a meeting with the Security Higher Council to assess security situation in the country.
