Security plan to prevent marches without using tear-gas and sticks in Algeria
Security forces in charge of protecting general order in Algeria work following a plan meant to maintain public security and based on non use of sticks and tear-gas, communication cell chief at national police said Wednesday.
- “A total of 1,500 policemen are mobilised to surround ways leading to the 1er Mai square, the starting point of a march expected to be held on Saturday,” Djilali Boudalia said in a tour to some security headoffices.
- Earlier on February 19th, a march organised by the National Coordination for Change was prevented by security forces. Organisers announced they would organise a march every Saturday.
- “As for the February 19th’s march, a security plan was adopted to have control on the situation without abuses. The number of policemen has been raised to avoid the use of tear-gas and sticks,” said the same source.
- “The fact that there was no arrest neither human nor material casualties shows that the security plan was successful,” he added.
- “The same security plan will be adopted.”
- Djamel Morci, a senior member in the national police said the republican security units will benefit from a specialised training about public security protection, law respect and human rights.
- He also said two new units were created in Bechar and Tamnrasset (south of Algiers) to develop the use of trained dogs to fight organised crime in all its forms.
