Sellal: Morocco must stop pouring drug into Algeria
The Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal called on Moroccan authorities to stop “pouring their drug into Algeria,” holding drug barons in Morocco responsible for funding terrorist groups in the region.
In a meeting with civil society in the province of Tlemcen, Sellal criticized Algerian goods smuggling through borders, saying drug money is a danger on the region safety and stability.
He added that Algeria has become a transit area for Moroccan drug. “Although large quantities are seized, they are the half of those smuggled. The half of them is consumed in Algeria and the rest are transferred abroad.”
Sellal called for unifying efforts to sensitize about drug danger to protect Algerian young people.
He said he informed higher authorities in Tunisia about Algerian security investigation findings which showed that Moroccan drug money funds terrorist groups.
Speaking about unrest in neighbor countries, Sellal said Algeria should be careful on its borders with seven countries.
“We will eliminate smuggling. We can use force but we don’t want that. Algerian authorities are aware that smuggling issue is related to Algeria’ssubsidy policy which makes the difference including fuel price which 7 times inferior than that of neighbor countries.”
The Prime Minister criticized intellectual elite for triggering despair among Algerian people, saying Algeria is not the best country but it is not the worst as well.
He announced that 31.6 billion DZ will be allocated to Tlemcen to fund a large number of development projects including desalination plants, housing projects and industrial zones.
Three new high schools, three junior schools and 10 canteens were built in the province. A sport complex is expected to be constructed as well.
