Six candidates excluded from elections race because of signatures quorum
The Constitutional Council said six candidates out of 12 were excluded because they did not reach signatures quorum. One of them collected 300 signatures only while candidate Ali Zaghdoud submitted 169.
Earlier, figures from the Algerian interior ministry showed that 100 people withdrew application forms including vegetable sellers, contractors, drivers and even unemployed people.
Article 139 of the law on elections stipulates that candidates should submit either a list of 600 individual signatures of elected people in municipal, provincial or parliamentary assemblies distributed in 25 provinces at least or a list of 60,000 individual signatures at least of voters registered in an electoral list collected from 25 provinces at least. Minimal number of required signatures should not exceed 1,500 in each province.
