Soltani: Islamists are Communicating to Unify Efforts

Algiers (14/1/2012)-Head of the Islamist Movement for Society and Peace (MSP) Bouguerra Soltani said his party received a communication recently on the initiative aiming to unite the Islamic Movement through participation in upcoming elections with consolidated lists.

MSP leader asserted that his movement will meet within days with owners of the initiative to discuss the proposal on a large scale, adding that “In all situations there would be new political alliances” after the elections.

Soltani explained, during the Regional Forum in Djelfa, west of Algeria, under the theme “Towards a new political generation” that the Algerian people had lost confidence in administration, parties, elections and associations, and begun shaking out hands of the revolutionary family, which is reflected in lack of participation in the previous elections as a result of the collapse of trust between people and rulers.

“ Algeria will not be immune from the repercussions of the Arab Spring, unless it will issue more real political, social and economic reforms, and do not depend only on the reforms that were announced by the President Abdelaziz Bouteflika about the transparency of the upcoming elections”, Soltani said.

On the sidelines of the press conference held in the House of Culture in the same town, Soltani attacked the previous statements by the Interior Minister Dahou Ould Kablia, who ruled out the victory of Islamists in May 2012 elections opposite to what happened in Tunisia and Morocco saying; “No one in Algeria can expect who is the winner of these elections and such expectations are abuses against the people’s will, and estimates of what is in the hands of citizens”.

MSP leader proposed the date of 14 January as a Victory Day for people’s freedom and fall of dictatorships, saying; “We have got the freedom and not full independence”.
