South Africa Exposes Moroccan Fallacies And Asserts: “You Are An Occupying Country Of Western Sahara”

South Africa confirmed that it is guided by the position of the African Union, in its permanent and persistent position on the Western Sahara, which continuously supports the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara, in keeping with the African Union resolutions and the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

The South African Foreign Ministry said that it appeals to the African Union to urge the parties to the conflict “to resume negotiations quickly without preconditions and in good faith, under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as the relevant issue is being considered by the UN Security Council”.

It noted “we are confident that the political process will progress to ensure the continuation of direct and substantive negotiations between the parties to the conflict, namely the Polisario Front and the Kingdom of Morocco”.

The South African Foreign Ministry also condemned the misinformation campaign that the Moroccan foreign ministry has been staging by leaking false information to the “official Moroccan news agency”, about the recent closed-door meeting of the UN Security Council and commented on it by saying “the article on the French-language site, was taken by local media”.

“The article seeks to correct or frame within a caricature the principled position of South Africa on issues of anti-occupation and decolonization, as repeatedly stated by South Africa”.

“South Africa unequivocally and strongly supports the work of the United Nations Mission for the self-determination Referendum in Western Sahara and its mandate, and urges the United Nations Security Council to shoulder its responsibility and ensure that through a neutral and balanced approach so as to help the parties at issue advance towards a mutually acceptable negotiated solution”.

South Africa also exhorted the Kingdom of Morocco to take up its responsibility as an occupying power by ensuring the necessary and unimpeded access to humanitarian and medical supplies to the lands it occupies”.

South Africa further reiterated once again “its firm commitment to efforts to find a peaceful solution, which is conducive to the established principle of self-determination for the people of Western Sahara in line with the directives of the United Nations and the African Union”.
