South Africa Withdraws From AFCON In Solidarity With Western Sahara

The South African national football team withdrew from African Futsal Cup of Nations (AFCON), in support of Western Sahara issue.

The official, Danny Jordaan, President of the South African Football Association (SAFA), announced on Wednesday that his country will not participate in the AFCON because the king of Morocco Mohamed VI insists on organizing it in El-Ayoun, the capital of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

It is known that the people of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic are groaning under the oppression of Moroccan colonialism.

The Confederation of African Football assigned to Morocco the task of organizing the AFCON, between January 28 and February 7, with the participation of 8 teams, and South Africa was supposed to be one of these teams.

The question remains asked about the silence, or even the collusion of the Malagasy Ahmed Ahmed, President of the CAF, with the colonial system of Mohamed VI of Morocco, in organizing a continental football tournament over the soil of Western Sahara, noting that the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is a member of the African Union (political organization).
