Spanish Airlines Scramble for Algerian Flights due to the Financial Crisis
Several Spanish airlines resorted to Algeria in light of the internal deficit, which they face and the worsening of the economic crisis in Spain, as “Vueling Airlines” decided to launch new flights towards Algiers and Oran starting from next September 19, while “Air Nostrum” announced last week that it will launch new flights towards the two Algerian cities, from Valencia and Alicante .
A statement by the Spanish “Vueleng airlines” saids that Barcelona-Algiers trip will be launched on September 19, and will be 4 times a week back and forth, and that on Sundays,Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, while Barcelona-Oran trip will be launched on October 28, and will be twice a week on Sunday and Thursday, back and forth.
The company’s statement added that it will apply competitive prices on flights to Algiers and Oran, as the tickets will cost 89 Euros, or about 13.000 dinars, and Algerians in the city of Bilbao in the province of Basque, and Amsterdam airport in Netherlands and Paris, will be able to take advantage of these flights, due to the remarkable presence of this company in these airports.
The same statement added that Algeria and its capital, noticed an active economic growing, and is considered the most important gate to enter Africa in the Maghreb countries, and due to a growing economic activity between Spain and Algeria as well.
”Air Nostrum” based in Valencia announced since 10 days ago that it will launch flights from Valencia and Alicante to Algiers and Oran, respectively, at prices of 119 and 149 euros back and forth.
It seems evident that the Spanish airlines are resorting to Algeria in light of the economic crisis which hit this country, especially as Algerians prefer the Spanish destination through the popularity of buying property in Spain, especially in the provinces of the south after their prices dropped significantly, as many Algerians took advantage of the situation and buy these properties.
