Subsidized milk powder smuggled to Morocco by top officials.

Investigators of the national gendarmerie of Oran (western Algeria) took the veil off a big scandal including top officials among them a minister’s brother and an usher; involved in the smuggling of powder milk towards Morocco.

•  The 12 convicts appeared before the judge who charged them of tax- evasion, forgery, criminal conspiracy and selling of milk powder destined to transformation. He ordered their arrest and put them under custody. The scandal broke out two months ago when investigators seized some 20 tons of milk powder in a warehouse whose value was estimated at more than 6 million Algerian Dinars. Following the inquiries carried out by the investigators, it was revealed that western regions benefit from 100 tons of powder per month, but few quantities are destined for transformation to an extent that many citizens complained to local authorities about the quality of the milk .
•  Our sources indicated that the smuggled powder was crossing the Algerian borders towards the Moroccan soil with the complicity of top officials and men of influence.
