A central director at post and communication technology said the number of electronic crimes increased in 2007.

“There is a need to international cooperation to fight this new kind of crime especially countries which host websites,” said Djamel Abdenacer Belabed.

For his part, the president of training bureau at Algiers’ security department believes that setting a law can be an efficient way to fight crimes.

He gave the example of the drug law which achieved positive results.

Communication and public relations cell at Algiers’ security department organised a seminar Thursday on cybercrime.

According to the president of training bureau at Algiers’ security department, Boueelamallah Rachid, this seminar comes within a training program for police officers especially judicial police officers in the fight against cybercrime.

The Algerian expert Belabed said the increase and dangers of this crime push the State to bear its responsibility to ensure the “digital safety.”

“Algeria has capacities and means to face this crime,” he added.

He believed that the creation of a “vigilance observatory” to keep watch on cybercrime is efficient and necessary.
