The Criminal Court of Algiers Judicial Council will open during the next session a file in which 19 people, including an expatriate Imam of a mosque in Mexico, are involved, whereby the accused will face a felony attempting to travel to a foreign country for the purpose of committing, planning, preparing for, participating in, or training in committing terrorist acts.

However, intensive investigations resulted in tracking down a number of them, while others managed to escape.

As part of the security investigation, a suspect revealed serious facts about the criminal acts in which he participated on his way to war-torn Syria via the Idlib countryside road, which facilitated the task for him to join the group called “Ahrar al-Sham”, after which he became active in the “Djihadist” battalion and got to know there several Algerians.

Throughout the period of his stay there, he also participated in battles in the Hama region against the regular army, according to what he said to the services of the judicial police, before deciding after the Union of Combat Factions to retire and return to Algeria with the help of a Syrian journalist without being arrested.

He said nonetheless that he remained in contact with them when he was staying in Mostaganem via a Facebook account bearing the name Abu al-Hammam al-Maghribi, and linked contacts with conscripts in Germany, including the alias “Abu Safiyya,” and another resident in France who was responsible for supporting prisoners detained in terrorist cases and their families with money.
