Suspicious drug blamed for the death of four children at cancer service

Corroborating sources revealed to “Echorouk” that an enquiry was launched to shed light on the death of four children last November at “Pierre et Marie Curie” cancer center in Algiers for having, most likely, taken a drug called “IFOSFAMIDE” produced by the Indian laboratory “OKASA”.

• This tragic event sparked panic among the professionals of the sector who apprehend another wave of deaths without elucidating the mystery. The investigation started a month ago and nothing has been revealed yet.
• An official source from Pierre et Marie Curie cancer center revealed to “Echorouk” that the drug was highly poisonous and its side effects were extremely dangerous. The main source further added that the drug control laboratory “pharmacovigilence” was the main side allowed to express about this affair.
• Sources reveal that the drug penetrated the Algerian market unlawfully because the procedures were very strict as concerns the import of drugs, according to an official in the health ministry, who revealed on a TV program entitled “Sur le Vif” broadcast on November 16, that pharmaceutical products are not allowed on the Algerian market without a prior notification.
