Syrian community implores president Bouteflika for visa extension

The members of the Syrian community settled in the city of Annaba (East of Algeria) told Echorouk that their return to Syria with the current volatile situation prevailing there was very difficult.

Some of them told Echorouk that applied  so many times at the Security and Administration departments of the province of Annaba to extend their stay duration until the security situation improves in their country, but their requests was always refused. A representative of the community said that their stay in Annaba like many other Algerian towns was legal as they have work permits. In order to renew their visas, foreigners need to stay three months out of Algeria and get back, but for Syrians it is almost impossible for them to do that. The community is imploring president Bouteflika to help them renew their visas in waiting for the situation to improve in Syria.

The information we gathered on spot shows that Syrians are working in restaurants and bakeries and sell oriental dishes and patisserie while others are students at different universities.
