Tebboune: “Malicious circles behind baseless rumours over viability of Grand Mosque project”
The Minister of Housing, Town Planning and the City Abdelmajid Tebboune has reiterated that the pace of the construction works of Djamaâ El Djazair (the future Grand Mosque of Algiers) has quickened in recent weeks and the project could be delivered in the last quarter of 2016.
The works are progressing more rapidly and the outstanding project will be delivered on time, said the minister in Algiers.
In this line, the housing and town planning Minister further dispelled the groundless rumors spread by certain media outlets as to the existence of lingering technical problems that threaten the integrity of the Grand Mosque project.
Mr Tebboune underlined to this effect that these baseless rumors have been spread wittingly by some “malicious” circles intent on covertly undermining this mega project which will be “the third largest in the whole world after the mosques in the holy places of Islam in Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia”, he noted.
Furthermore, he affirmed that after addressing all pending issues that hindered the progress of the building works notably those related to the coordination between the design office and the construction company, the expected delay of one year and a half will be reduced to nine months.
“We assert today that the building works are remarkably forging ahead and we are optimistic about the delivery of the project within the required deadlines”, the minister underscored.
