Temporary teachers, terror victims, dismissed militaries stage sit-in in Algiers
Hundreds of temporary teachers, terrorism civilian victims, dismissed militaries and comers from Libya Sunday staged a sit-in out of the President’s Office in Algiers amid self-immolation attempts.
- A temporary teacher tried to kill himself by drinking gas. Hours later, he was taken to hospital. He was with more than 200 teachers claiming their right in integration.
- The teachers have been protesting for two weeks. They rejected the education minister’s request to form a team for negotiation.
- Teacher Mohamed Derghal tried to commit a suicide but the protester kept watch on him. He has taught Arabic for 10 years in a mountainous area in the province of Tipaza but he was dismissed and replaced by a teacher who won an official exam.
- Abdelouahab, a young man, passed out from low blood sugar. Khaled Mimoune was injured in his foot following clashed with the police.
- About 500 representatives of terrorism civilian victims staged a sit-in out of the President’s Office to claim their social rights. They say they have not got their monthly allowance for eight months.
- They called on the interior ministry to open an investigation about the activity of terror victims’ associations. “Those associations made business with the blood of our relatives and families,” said a protester. They asked for a fixed monthly wage, allowance raise to widows, social houses, transport and medical treatment for free.
- In the same place, tens of dismissed militaries gathered out of the national defence ministry’s headquarters to protest against marginalisation and claiming their right in integration and compensation.
- Comers from Libya continued their sit-in next to the protesters calling on authorities to compensate them after they had lost everything in Libya following the popular uprising.
