Tens of jobless people protest next employment ministry in Algeria
Tens of unemployed people protested next the employment ministry’s headquarters in Algiers Sunday to defend Algerian unemployed citizens’ rights, to condemn their conditions and to inform authorities about their claims.
- The protesters were beaten by security forces and some of them were arrested. Their representatives held a meeting with the ministry’s officials. They expressed their anger over double standard policy as the ministry calls for them for dialogue and beats them at the same time.
- They condemned marginalisation and exclusion. They also refused to be a political mean exploited by parties or the government. “One, two, three, Algeria where?” they shouted.
- They asked for pension equal to 50 percent of the National Minimal Wage and creating permanent jobs for all unemployed young men.
-
- They reject current employment mechanisms and stressed the necessity of replacing them by a new strategy. They asked to allocate money to build large national companies and ban subcontracting ventures. They also asked authorities to create new jobs in civil service.
- While the protesters were waiting for the end of the meeting, a young man wearing public cleaning company uniform tried to set himself on fire. He was about to immolate himself when a journalist and a policeman took the lighter out from him.
