Terrorism: Armed forces foil an attempt to smuggle war weapons on Algeria-Mali borders

Algerian forces foiled, on Friday, an attempt to smuggle weapons for the benefit of terrorist groups in the country, and exactly for the benefit of “Tareq Ibn Ziad” battalion, which is located in the region between Bejaia and Tizi Ouzou, eastern Algeria, during an operation of inspection and search deep in the desert of Tinezrofat, and across the border between Mali and Algeria in the area of Al Khalil.

Details of the operation according to information from the scene, the weapons are likely to be the property of one of the unknowndrug barons, who is also active in the region, and supporting back up elements of terrorist groups, and was likely intending to be deliver arms to the other back up cells coming from Tizi Ouzou, and after cracking down on battalion of “Tariq ibn Ziad”, it sffered lack of weapons.

A cache of ten buried weapons have been discovered , including Kalashnikovs and four weapons with  foiled, a sniper-type “Mas36”, an “FMPK “, and a large quantity of ammunition of the caliber 7.62-54 mm, with an estimated number of 44162 live shots, asthe owner intended to delivered them  to the backup elements in Tizi Ouzou, and after the armed troops detected this terrorist plotthey retrieved this large quantity, which was planned to be transferred to the north of the country, in favor of the terrorist organization(al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb), while investigations are still underway to arrest the backup element who was  likely to infiltrateby night to Mali.
