The criminal court of Batna, 400 km east of Algiers has passed a death sentence on the ring leader of a terrorist group calling itself the “death squadron†for the attempted assassination of President Abdellaziz Bouteflika in late 2007 in the city of Batna as well as for other criminal offences committed years earlier.
The terrorist ring leader (Ali. M.) was convicted on charges of committing a series of wanton murders, thefts, racketeering and subversive activities together with several of his terrorist henchmen who had sowed mayhem for several years in the Batna region.
They were notably found guilty of the atrocious killing of a soldier, 2 policemen and 4 citizens in a fake road-block set up in the Timgad area, late into the night, on the eve of the celebration of Algeria ’s Independence Day in the year 2003.
The 7 innocent victims were savagely slaughtered and their money, their papers (I.C, Passports…) and their personal belongings were stolen by the terrorist group whose members including their chief (Ali.M.) were later identified by some witnesses who miraculously escaped this hideous massacre.
