The Consultations On Reforms Extend The Incumbent Regime Life, Opponent Djaballah

In interview with Echorouk, former president of Al Islah Movement, Abdellah Djabellah slammed consultations on reforms that the regime has held for a month.

Mr Djabellah said the panel for consultations on political reforms is a mere “hearing panel not even qualified to hold discussions,” adding that those consultations that have been called by the regime are only an opportunity “to win more time.”

He indicated that he agrees with political figures, including Abdelhamid Mehri, who claim setting up a national congress to discuss the situation and draw up an approach to get out of the crisis.

Mr Djabellah, who is a respectful national figure, known by his Islamist-democrat tendency, further added that the consultations on reforms have satisfied the regime’s goals, because they enabled it to win more time and extend its seizure of power.

“The consultations have served the regime, rather than the opposition or Algeria in general, because they (consultations) have been proceeded with an anti-democratic method,” Mr Djabellah said, adding that “I preferred implementing the Shura method which is more democratic as it enables taking the opinion of the majority.”

“Consequently, the regime turns its back to the real preoccupations of the people, including protecting them from abuses, and insists on running the nation on the base of the winner and the looser, rather than on the base of responsible governing ”  Mr Djabellah concluded.
