The Consumer’s Massive Rush to the Market Soared Staple Food Prices, Benbada
The Minister of Trade Mustapha Benbada said on Sunday that consumers are responsible for the staple food soaring prices, given that they rush to purchase great quantities, affecting thus the balance of demand and supply on the eve of holy month of Ramadan.
Mr Benbada has conducted a field visit to the markets of El Harrach and Eucalyptus localities, in the eastern outskirts of Algiers.
He told reporters that the civil societies and the public authorities have failed to set control on the prices of staple food, without however providing persuasive answers over the “shocking” soaring prices.
“The difference in food prices is irrational, while the government has taken necessary steps to solve such a problem, including through reviewing distribution network with clear legislative frame, in order to control the prices of goods in both retail and wholesale markets,” the minister concluded.
