The Court to Resume Sonatrach Corruption Trial

The Court of Algiers to examine Wednesday the appeal filed by the general prosecutor over the scandal that shook the hydrocarbons Sonatrach group.

 

The appeal has come to challenge the examining magistrate decision to refer the case to the Correctional Court and adapting it as misdemeanor of sealing illegal deals, while declaring the defendants, including the former CEO Mohamed Meziene, not guilty over charges of the formation of a criminal gang.

Once the Court of Algiers decides on this issue, the trial will resume in an open session in either a correctional court or a criminal court. 

Meanwhile, close sources to the Sonatrach case revealed that detectives have finished their 21 lasting months’ investigation over the seal of illegal consensual deals with foreign partners, inflicting the state run giant huge losses.

Fourteen (14) defendants have been charged, including former CEO of Sonatrach, Mohamed Mezian, his two sons, a manager of a German enterprise, and four executive managers.
