The Government Eternalizes the Subsidy of Sugar and Oil Food

The government has officially added sugar and food oil to subsidized staple food list, in accordance with an executive decree recently approved.

The temporary subsidizing measures that the government initiated in January 2011, to calm down the social unrest that triggered in the North African nation, have been maintained later, and then became permanent with an executive decree in 2012.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Trade, Farouk Tifour told Echorouk reporter that the government has been drawing up the aforementioned decree in the second half of 2011, in the wake of “the sugar and food oil protests.”

Mr Tifour explained that no retailer or wholesaler can by now increase the price of sugar and food oil, as the executive decree has maintained the price ceiling into force since March 2011.

He further added that sugar and food oil have become part of the list of subsidized staple food, including milk, bread, gas, etc.
