The joint Algeria-Britain commission meets Tuesday  in Algiers

The joint Algeria-Britain commission hold today its 5th session in Algiers, to assess bilateral relationships and share opinions on international and territorial political issues of common interest, a Foreign Ministry’s statement said on Monday.

  • The aforementioned session is to be co-chaired by Algeria’s Minister Deputy for Maghreb and African Affairs, Abdelkader Messahel, and the British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, Alistair Burt, the statement added.
  • “This meeting falls in the frame of regular consultations between the two countries, and will permit to the two parties assessing bilateral cooperation and share opinions on international and territorial political issues of common interest,” the source mentioned.
  • To recall this bilateral commission has been installed in accordance to a convention signed in 2006.
  • At the end of Alistair’s work visit conducted in last November, M.Messahel said “Algeria and Britain share compatible views on the issue of counterterrorism in the region.”
  • At the same occasion, the British Minister indicated that “terrorism constitutes a threat to the whole world,” adding that Britain endorses Algeria’s position in terms of the incrimination of ransoms payment to terror groups to free hostages. He further stressed that “Algeria is a key country in the counterterrorism efforts in the region.”
