The Sahrawi Polisario Front militants have arrested nine men suspected of involvement in the kidnapping of three westerner aid workers in 22 October, from the refugee camp of Tindouf, south west of Algeria.

At the sidelines of the 13th Congress of the Polisario being held in the liberated territories of Tifariti, the head of the congress committee, Khatri Adda, held a news conference to evoke the congress agenda and aims.

Responding to Echorouk reporter question over the hostages crisis, Mr Adda revealed that the Polisario militants have recently arrested a group of people suspected of being “direct involvement in the kidnapping, adding that “the investigation is underway to identify their nationalities, as we are still working with the countries of the region and abroad to rescue the hostages safe and sound.”

The Sahrawi official underlined that “the Sahrawi people are determinant to defend their guests, even if we are forced to use military force to confront terrorism and organized crime.”

In this context, he mentioned that a tough security plan has been set up in the liberated territories, as to guarantee the existence of permanent forces to secure the area.

Elsewhere, a military senior official at the Polisario Front told Echorouk reporter that the nine arrested suspects belong to an unknown terror group, which still has not demanded any ransom to release the westerner aid workers, stressing that the kidnappers may represent a group with political ends.
