The privatization of the Algerian university is not on the agenda yet
Though the higher education minister has always put forward the argument that the opening of the sector doesn’t mean the privatization of the Algerian university, official sources revealed that the issue is on top of the agenda of the relevant ministry.
-
- The privatization of the higher education sector would imply that people who meet the requirements in terms of money and degrees have the possibility to create universities and campuses on different corners of the country.
- One has to question the consequences of the move on the educational system in the light of the past experiences in the different levels including day-care, primary and high schools, where records were not very satisfying.
- Several questions come to mind when we talk about the privatization of the higher education system; some would say that this is an implicit acknowledgement of the government of its failure to produce future able managers to run the different sectors, other sees in the move as a mere partnership with the private operators, because the government cannot face the growing demand on its own, while others tend to explain that by the fact that the sector is economically worth investing.
- Though the operators are not very keen on injecting money in the sector, the authorities are keeping the idea and the law in the fridge. Will the government give its go ahead for the Arab and Foreign operators to invest in the sector
