These Are Algerian Personalities That Macron Will Honor
French President Emmanuel Macron is preparing to honor 380 people from abroad, from former colonies or immigrants in order to help mayors in particular to renew the names of streets or public buildings.
The French “Huffington Post” website revealed a list of 380 personalities in various historical, scientific and cultural fields.
Emir Abdelkader, founder of the Algerian state, and Mesali El Hadj, a fighter in the Algerian national movement, are included in the list in addition to Cherif Kadi, who was the first Muslim Algerian to be accepted into the French Polytechnic School in 1887.
Also included in the list is Wasini Bouarfa, a member of the only French military unit that participated in the Normandy landings during the Second World War.
President Macron had entrusted the task of preparing the list to a scientific committee of about twenty figures headed by historian Pascal Blanchard, along with writer Leila Slimani, Rachid Benzine and historian Pascal Urey.
The website stated that the committee handed over the relevant list to the President of the Republic in February, pending its official presentation by the Deputy Minister in charge of the city, Nadia Hay.
