Transport Minister Talai: “Algeria’s airports are safe”

Transport Minister, Boudjemaâ Talai, announced that a broad-based meeting is scheduled for May 2016 with the trade unions representing the Air Algerie workers to address their socio-professional claims and avoid any walkouts at the approach of the summer season and the period of Pilgrimage or Hajj.

Moreover, he added, in light of the attacks that took place in Brussels and the highjacking of aircraft of Egyptair, Algeria’s airports are among the safest  airports in the world and there is no fear about that because all measures have been taken to deal with any potential threat.

Therefore, he stated that the Algerian efficiency in terms of airport security is recognized by all countries worldwide.

The Transport Minister further indicated that the Algerian government attaches great importance to the major Cherchell port project which is a positive asset for the economic and social development of the country because of wealth and jobs creation in the country’s central region, while reassuring local citizens that there rights wouldn’t be harmed by the state, stressing that all archaeological, forest sites, including the environment, would  be duly preserved during the works  to be carried out by the relevant construction Company.

This outstanding structural project, assigned a budget of over three billion dollars, should help mitigate the heavy burden now weighing on the port of Algiers, added Mr. Talai, noting that the selection of the Hamdania area to the east of the coastal town of Cherchell, for its implementation was dictated by many considerations, including the depth of water and the free movement of ships carrying containers.

Moreover, this great future port of the Central part of the country will be directly connected to two railway lines and the East-West Highway, and will greatly facilitate the transport of goods, as it is expected to be turned into a major economic development pole, Mr Talai underlined.
