The tripartite meeting, which has brought together the Government, the Central Trade Union (UGTA) and employer organizations, should meet expectations relating to the improvement of workers’ purchasing power, Said Thursday Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia.

In his allocution at the opening of works of the Tripartite Summit, Mr Ouyahia said the national economy should be safeguarded by additional protective measures, in order to improve the citizens’ purchase power and social development.

“Economy, as a tool, should be supported to curb unemployment,” he said, adding: “Algeria is enjoying special financial opportunity, amid unstable international situation, which could have repercussions on our country,” in reference to the possible return of the wave of protests and strikes.

The PM further said that the government has taken down preoccupations of the employers in terms of the purchase power, adding that “this issue should not be isolated from efforts being made in recent years in bid to improve social conditions of civil servants and employed at public companies.”

Furthermore, Mr Ouyahia indicated that the retirement issue “would be discussed too during the next meetings of the Tripartite.”
