A U.S. report placed Algeria on the blacklist of human trafficking 2016, along the line with 26 other countries that it accused of neglecting the human trafficking worldwide, including Syria, Iran, Russia, Sudan, Djibouti and Mauritania.

It ranks Yemen, Libya and Somalia as “exceptional” because their governments cannot take control of their territories.

U.S. Department published the report before submitting it to Congress and divided the states into three categories, according to their commitment to international agreements and protocols that are relating to this issue, the worst of them is the third category, as governments totally do not adhere to the minimum standards  that are prescribed by the law on Human Trafficking protection, and do not make important efforts in this regard, which subjected it to U.S. sanctions.

Same report said that the U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to decide, within 90 days, whether he will impose sanctions on those countries after their inclusion in the blacklist or not.

Third category includes six Arab countries, including Algeria, along the line with Iran, southern Sudan, Russia, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Burma, Burundi, Central African Republic, Haiti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, North Korea, the Marshall Islands, Russia, Suriname, Papua New Guinea.

Second category, which is making insufficient efforts to combat the scourge, includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Romania, Thailand, Kuwait, Namibia, and Cambodia.
