U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Saturday said Algeria and the United States of America have strong friendship relationships hoping to expand and diversify economic bilateral ties.

Shortly after a meeting with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Rice stated that talks dealt with economic relations and excellent scientific and economic agreements between the two countries.

The U.S. Secretary of State left Algeria Saturday for Morocco after visiting Libya and Tunisia in a four-nation North African tour.

She also highlighted the importance of counterterrorism cooperation with Algeria and North Africa as a whole.

“I was very saddened at the loss of life of innocent Algerians in recent terror incidents,” she said.
