UN General Assembly: Algeria respects the nuclear safety standards
New York- Algeria gives a large importance to respecting the international norms and standards of nuclear safety and security, Algerian FM Mourad Medelci said Thursday.
Speaking at the High Level Meeting on Nuclear Security in the context of the 66th UN General Assembly, the FM said that Algeria is aware of its responsibility as an operator of a civilian nuclear infrastructure mainly dedicated to research, has joined the main international instruments legally binding (convention on the physical protection of nuclear material, convention on early notification of in case a nuclear accident.
In addition, he indicated that Algeria applies, though non-binding, the code of conduct of the IAEA on safety and security of radioactive sources and the code of conduct on the safety of research reactors and driven to upgrade its legislation.
