US Embassy to sponsor inter-faith dialogue writing competition for Algerian students
In partnership with the Algerian Muslim Scouts and several leading Algerian papers, The US Embassy in Algiers has decided to sponsor a fresh annual inter-faith dialogue writing competition for Algerian high school students.
-
- Students from all regions of Algeria will submit essays in French or Arabic. The essays will be judged by a panel of local religious leaders and journalists, and the three best entrants will be chosen to receive scholarships for a year of English lessons. The grand prize winner will also receive a laptop computer.
- Earlier this year, on April 14, US Charge d’Affaires William Jordan hosted a reception and award ceremony for the winners and their families with religious, cultural, civil society, and media leaders. The winners read their thoughtful essays to the supportive crowd; the press the next day hailed their words as “moving,” and a “beautiful lesson in tolerance.”
- This brand-new inter-faith dialogue writing competition, involving high-school students aged between 15 and 18, is slated to wind up on September 30th 2011.
- All the essays not exceeding 600 words should be sent to the following e-mail address: Algiers_webmaster@state.gov
- The Fax number is: 021-607-335 and the US Embassy address is: 05 rue Cheikh Al Bashir Ibrahimi, El Biar, Algiers, Algeria.
