US hand over two Algerian Guantanamo detainees to Algeria
Two Algerian nationals who were detained in the US military base of Guantanamo in Cuba have been repatriated and handed over to the relevant Algerian authorities.
A communiqué issued by the Court of Algiers said the two nationals were handed over yesterday Wednesday at Algiers’ Airport following their repatriation from the Guatanamo base by the US authorities.
According to the same sources, the two Algerian nationals were submitted to a preliminary investigation by the judicial police and held for questioning before being brought before the general prosecutor.
The national consultative commission for the promotion and protection of human rights said that the Algerian authorities had given the go-ahead to their repatriation on the basis of commitments agreed upon with the United States since 2007.
