Violence in Schools: 4555 Teachers Victims of Their Students in Algeria, Report

As many as 4555 teachers have been victims of violence by their students, while 1942 students endured violent acts by school employees, including their teachers, during the school year of 2010-2011, a report conducted by Ministry of Education concluded.

 

 

The report shows that there were 17645 fights between school students, noting that such alarming figures have urged the ministry of Education to draw up a national roadmap to deter this phenomenon.

The report concluded that the majority of the aforementioned violent acts occurred within secondary schools, as 2899 students were involved in verbal and physical harassments and altercations against their teachers, comparing to 1455 students in high schools, and 201 in primary schools. 

Yet, the source shows that students in secondary schools are the most exposed to violent acts by teachers and the school  employees, as 999 students were subject to violence there, comparing to 645 students in primary schools and 298 in high schools.

However, 511 fights erupted between different school-employees, the report concluded, also. 

The figures show also that the degree of violence in schools dropped comparing with recent years, noting that the survey was conducted in 32 provinces.
