The Moujahidine or War Veterans Minister, Mohamed Chérif Abbas, has said that Algeria is still adamantly calling for the retrieval from France of all the archives pertaining to the Algerian armed struggle for freedom and independence launched on November 1st 1954.

In a statement to the press Thursday outside a plenary session of the national popular assembly held in Algiers, Mr Mohamed Chérif Abbas stressed that such a long-running query for the recovery of all the Algerian archives compiled during the harsh colonial yoke was of paramount importance for the Algerian state and people.

He also urged the former Algerian freedom-fighters or Moujahidine still alive to collect all the documents related to the glorious national armed liberation struggle and convey them to the relevant provincial authorities in order to preserve the historical facts and pave the way for a comprehensive and reliable writing of Algeria’s contemporary history.

The war veterans’ minister further denied certain rumours purporting that there were fake Algerian Moujahidine of the independence war stressing that such allegations by certain shadowy quarters were totally unfounded and groundless and aiming at sowing discord and confusion but to no avail.
