Employees of the National Office of Weather Forecasts have decided to go on strike over the 76 forecast centers installed countrywide.

Such a protest move would freeze the maritime trips and air flights as ports and airports depend on the forecast reports before setting up their schedules.

Representatives of the employees are due to hold a general assembly on Wednesday to decide on the strike day.

Yet, employees at the western region have already started unlimited strike, and vowed not to resume work until their demands are met.

In fact, the angry employees claim, principally, a 70 percent wage hikes, retroactive to 2008.

However, general director of Weather Forecasts National Office told the employees’ trade union during Sunday meeting, that he is ready to implement a non-retroactive 25 percent wage hikes, inciting thus the workers who decided to launch their protest move.

A trade union representative told Echorouk reporter that “things are growing unbearable inside the weather forecasts office and imminently to explode.”

He added that the employees are waiting for the Minister of Transport, Amar Tou, to meet commitments, as he pledged in last 21 June meeting, to respond to their social and professional claims.
