Work accidents kill 8000 Algerians annually
Latest statistics by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, show that work-related accidents kill 8000 Algerians in 50000 work accident that were recorded annually, while the total number of occupational diseases among workers reached 250, resulting in the loss of 15000 days annually.
In this context, an official source from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security told Echorouk on Saturday, that the latest report which is currently on the table of the Minister Tayeb Louh, reveals that the number of occupational diseases in Algeria reached 520, that are authorized by the National Fund for Social Insurance for workers, as much as the number of persons who have been subjected to death due to accidents at work in all sectors, reaching 8000 people, among 50000 work accidents per year, a figure likely to rise this year.
Same source, added that these incidents cause the loss of 14000 days per year, which is a heavy toll on the national economy, stressing not to overlook the small problems in any work site, as they often cause a disaster, such as what happened in one of the University residences of Tlemcen, when 11 people were killed due to leakage of gas, stressing that most of these accidents due to the absence of securing work sites in Algeria, despite the agreements that have been ratified by Algeria, including Conventions No. 155 and 167 related to the protection of health and security at work.
