World Bank: 25 diseases kill Algerians

The World Bank warned that countries in the Middle East and North Africa experience remarkable increase of non contagious diseases which are behind early deaths.

According to a recent report 1990-2010, cardiovascular diseases increased by 44 percent in the region compared to stroke by 35 percent and diabetes by 87 percent.

The same report said health challenges in countries in North Africa and the Middle East have become similar to those in western countries.

The report is the result of collective efforts made by researchers from 50 countries. It shows changes happened to main reasons behind early deaths in countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

It noted how the region managed to reduce health damage caused by most of stomach diseases and troubles related to new born babies, food and maternity.

According to the same source, many factors raised diseases causing early death. Of them, there are malnutrition, high blood pressure, obesity and smoking.

The report ranked 25 main cases causing death in Algeria. Of them, cardiovascular troubles, respiratory diseases, stroke, traffic accidents, diabetes, malnutrition, high blood pressure and obesity.

The World Bank called on North African countries to face the challenge of reinforcing health systems in 2013-2018 so that they will be able to ensure fairer and more efficient health services and fight diabetes, high blood pressure among poor people and women.
