Young Algerian Prisoner Dies In Italy In Mysterious Circumstances

An Algerian died in Capua Vetere prison in Caserta, southern Italy, in mysterious circumstances, where his body would undergo an autopsy to confirm whether or not he died due to COVID 19, and to determine the cause of his death, especially after accusations were made against the prison administration over intimidating and beating prisoners in the recent period.

Italian media quoted the regional representative of prisoners, Samueli Chambrillo, as saying that an Algerian prisoner died Monday in Capua Vetere prison in Caserta province in circumstances that remain mysterious, especially since this prison noticed recently a violent uprising of its inmates after stopping family visits due to the COVID 19 spread in Italy, especially as the accusations have been made against the prison authorities due to beating detainees in the last protests.

According to the same source, the Algerian prisoner is called Lamine H. born in June 1992 (28), noting that he was alone in the cell and that the victim’s body was transferred to the hospital to carry out the autopsy and determine the circumstances and causes of his death, especially that it is a strange case of its kind in Italian prisons, since the beginning of the year, in addition to 17 suicides.
