Yves Bonnet: “The Algerian Army had nothing to do with the assassination of the Tibhirine Monks”

“The Algerian Army and its intelligence services are not at all responsible for the assassination in 1996 of the 7 Tibhirine Monks”, the former chief of the French DST, Yves Bonnet, declared during an Algerian TV broadcast on Friday.

  • Mr Yves Bonnet described as “crimes against history” the accusations leveled by certain political and media circles in France which are desperately seeking to implicate the Algerian Army and its security services in the horrendous assassination of the 7 Tibhirine Monks in 1996 in central Médéa province.

  • According to Yves Bonnet, these accusations are “very serious and are not a simple diplomatic blunder”, as he put it.

  •
  •
  • On the contrary, he said, the various Algerian security services did their best to protect the Monks and the Algerian authorities proposed to them security solutions.

  •
  •
  • Mr Yves Bonnet pointed out as former DST chief who was close to the file, he had no doubt whatsoever that the 7 hapless Monks had been cowardly murdered by GIA terrorists who were then under the command of sinister ringleader  Djamel Zitouni.
