Zeroual: I am against breaking Constitution
Algerian former president Liamine Zeroual said he is ready to shed his last drop of blood for Algeria whenever he is asked to, a member of a delegation which met Zeroual told Echorouk.
“Zeroual talked about memories from his actions during the Revolution and after the independence. He also talked about his position as defense minister and President of the Republic. He neither accepted nor refused to run for office and manage a transition phase,” Taher Akouche said.
The former president met with a delegation of war veterans’ sons on July 3rd in his hometown in the province of Batna (east of Algiers).
Akouche said Zeroual stressed the necessity of respecting the work of constitutional institutions and he did not call for breaking the Constitution. “There are republican and presidential institutions which do their job in a normal way,” he said
Earlier, the war veterans’ sons asked for forming a national commission to meet Zeroual. Yet, the request was rejected and the delegation was allowed to talk to the Algerian former president. That caused conflicts among the war veterans’ sons to decide who would meet Zeroual.
